1992 James Hardie 12 Hour
Previous: 1991 Next: 1993

The 1992 James Hardie 12 Hour was an endurance race for production cars staged at the Mount Panorama Circuit, Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia on 19 April 1992. Cars competed in six classes:

Allan Grice and Brad Jones raced a Holden VP SS Ute (26th) sponsored by Akubra hats. Ever the showman, Gricey did his qualifying lap with a (model) blue cattle dog in the back of the ute. He entered the car because for its V8 power the ute was relatively light weight, but the weight distribution was such he struggled with the handling. He was a crowd favourite though as he realised he could bounce the ute off the ripple strips to get it around the corners making his driving style quite spectacular. Many credit this as the birth of the V8 Ute series in Australia.
