The 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship is a bowl game that is to be used determine a national champion of NCAA Division I FBS college football for the 2016 season, to be played at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida on January 9, 2017 between the winners of the Fiesta Bowl and Peach Bowl that will be held on December 31, 2016. It would be the culminating game of the 2016–17 bowl season as the third College Football Playoff National Championship.

Background

Tampa was announced as the host city for the third College Football Playoff National Championship game on December 17, 2013, beating competing bids by Jacksonville, Minneapolis, San Antonio, San Francisco, and South Florida. It will be the first CFP championship game not held at the site of one of the "New Year's Six" bowls.[1]

Teams

The Fiesta Bowl and the Peach Bowl are assigned to be semifinals whose winners would advance to the title match.
