The 2017 Major League Soccer season will be the 22nd season of Major League Soccer, top division of soccer in the United States and Canada. The regular season is expected to begin in March 2017 and conclude in October 2017. The MLS Cup Playoffs are expected to begin in late October 2017 and conclude with MLS Cup 2017 in December 2017.

Two new clubs will be joining the league as expansion franchises: Atlanta United and Minnesota United. The two franchises will be the 21st and 22nd teams in the league.^[1]

Selection Procedure
- Four US-based teams qualify for the 2018–19 CONCACAF Champions League:
  1. The winner of the MLS Cup 2017;
  2. The winner of the Supporters' Shield ;
  3. The regular season conference champion that did not win the Supporters Shield ;
  4. The winner of the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup .
  Each qualifier is placed in Pot 3, along with the four Mexican qualifiers. Should a team qualify through more than one method, or should a team from Canada win the MLS Cup, the next best US team in the overall table would take its place.
  One Canada-based team qualifies for the Champions League (NOTE: Canadian teams cannot qualify through MLS):
  1. The winner of the 2017 Canadian Championship
  They are placed in Pot 1, along with the three Caribbean qualifiers, the two qualifiers from El Salvador, and one qualifier each from Belize and Nicaragua.
