Tan Sri Abu Bakar bin Haji Abdullah (born 16 February 1955) is a former Director General of the Public Service Department (PSD) of Malaysia. He succeeded Ismail Adam, whose tenure ended on June 30, 2010 and being controversially ended his service in July 1, 2012.[1]

Career

Abdullah started his career on September 19, 1977 in the Ministry of Trade and Industry as the Assistant Director of Domestic Trade, a position that he held until 1982. He then held the title of Principal Assistant Director of Trade Development until 1988.

He was transferred to the Ministry of Defense with a promotion to the position of Principal Assistant Secretary of the Defence Force Council in 1988, and received the same post in the Development Division.

In 2001, he was promoted to the Prime Minister's Department (PMD) as the Secretary of Development of Federal Territories and Klang Valley. Three years later he became the Deputy Secretary General in the Federal Territories Ministry in 2004, then held the same position in the PMD in 2005, and the Development Division of the Ministry of Defense in 2006.

Before his appointment to the post of Director General of Public Service, he was appointed to the Ministry of Defence as Secretary General on July 17, 2007.

On June 15, 2010, the Chief Secretary to the Government, Mohd. Sidek Hassan released a statement[2][3] saying that Abdullah had received the appointment in the PSD, and that it had the King's consent.

In 2012, PSD’s controversial Public Service Renumeration Scheme (SBPA), which was axed after protests from within the civil service. This have resulted him to be ended service in July 1 and replaced by Datuk Farida Mohd Ali.[4]
