Abu Shahed Emon (Bengali: আবু শাহেদ ইমন; ) is a Bangladeshi film director, writer and editor.[1][2] Abu Shahed Emon[3] is one of the young directors in Bangladeshi film industry. His debut feature film Jalal's Story became Bangladesh's entry for the 88th Academy award consideration for the best foreign language film category.[4][5][6][7][8] According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jalal's Story reflects a new cinema sensibility in Bangladeshi cinema [4] far away from the Bollywood-inspired local film practices.[9][10]

In 2014 Emon's Debut Feature received a support for the Post-Production category[11][4][12] from the Asian Cinema Fund[13](ACF)[14][15][5][16] Funds from Busan International Film Festival.[17][18] His another project the Tale of a Policeman[19] received a Script Development funding[19] from Asian Cinema Fund (ACF) in 2011.[20][21] The Tale of a Policeman also participated in the Asian Project Market (APM) in 2011[22] and received the Goteborg Film Festival Fund[23][24][25][26] Emon is planning to make 'The Tale of a Policeman' as his next feature film project.[27]

Career & Education

Abu Shahed Emon studied on Psychology at Dhaka University. Film making idea first came into his mind when he was doing his graduation.[28] He attended University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse for doing his graduation in Communication. He also received Diploma in Screen and Media from Sydney Film School and after that got Advance Diploma in the same subject from RMIT University.[29]
