Adamson University College of Liberal Arts

The Adamson University College of Liberal Arts is one of the nine colleges of Adamson University, a private Catholic university located in Manila, Philippines.

Departments

English and Foreign Languages

The Department of Foreign Languages is an arm of the College of Liberal Arts that takes care of the linguistic and communication instruction of all University students. Being a service department, it provides services to all students enrolled in English, Spanish and Nihongo courses.

The Speech laboratories

There are two speech laboratories featuring the latest gadgets for oral communication exercises and drills. These laboratories service all the freshmen and sophomores enrolled in Basic English courses and Speech and Oral Communication subject. Up-dated speech materials are used to enhance and enrich students learning a second language.

The Regis Clet laboratory

This laboratory serves as a venue for Public Speaking students where they are given lessons in public delivery and group discussions. Speeches and oral exercises are made available to students for them to imitate and to serve as models for spoken deliveries.

Likewise, literature students use this laboratory as a place for film viewing of relevant movies to supplements their literary experiences taken from books. Classic films about Greek mythology and contemporary films relevant to the time are shown to students to further enrich their literary and life experiences.

It manages the Media Center for the exclusive use of Mass Communication students. This laboratory is a studio-type venue where Radio, TV, and drama workshop are held. The center has a film editing facility where the students with the professor's guide edit their TV films before actual film presentation.

The Department of Foreign Languages offers a special English course called EEP or English Enrichment Program to interested students and outsiders who want to improve their fluency in spoken English. This course is good for 50 hours and is handled by highly trained professors in Communication. The course uses the communicative technique and approach using interactive activities in the lesson to give students the opportunity to speak in English.

The Department also offers an Intensive English Course as part of its tie-up with PLDT to prepare graduating senior students who wish to make a career in the Call Center Industry after graduation.

Physical Education

The Department of Physical Education, as service department, offers the following courses:

Physical Fitness and Gymnastics

This course includes the discussion on physical fitness and its components, how to determine or compare one's fitness based on the standard norm and how to maintain and achieve fitness. Physical activities are centered on the development of the following components: endurance, speed, agility, flexibility, power, strength, cardio-respiratory, and organic vigor.

Rhythmic Activities (Ballroom and Folk Dancing)

Rhythmic, Ballroom, and Folk Dancing are social activities. They are considered an art form in the sense that its chief purpose is to express and thus communicate to their ideas, feelings or emotions. The function is to give physical enjoyment to the participants through the performance of the specific rhythms and movements involve and social satisfaction through group participations.

Individual Sport (Badminton)

The course offers students on the nature of the game— its basic concept, its history, the rules of the game, its different distinct phases and the different skills needed on each phase.

Teams Sports (Volleyball, Basketball)

This course will teach students the basic concepts of the games and its nature. This will help the students to attain healthy and strong body, mental alertness, emotional maturity as well as the strong discipline during the day-to-day activities.

Swimming

This course introduces the students to the basic skills in swimming including historical background and status of the sport, terminologies, interpretation, and application of the basic skills. Other skills such as back stroke and breast stroke, survival skills and plunging-in are also included to provide opportunities for actual game situations and acquire desirable values such as self-discipline, confidence, determination and others inherent in the sport.
