Akhilesh Reddy is a British physician-scientist at the University of Cambridge.[1] He studied on the MB/PhD programme at Cambridge and did a PhD at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology.[2] He is a Wellcome Trust Senior Fellow in Clinical Sciences.[3]

Reddy's research group discovered the existence of circadian clocks in human red blood cells (erythrocytes) in 2011.[4] With Andrew Millar, his group also showed the existence of 24-hour oscillations in marine algae.[5] Therefore, his group discovered circadian rhythms without the formation of new RNA in higher organisms for the first time. In 2012, Reddy's group showed that redox circadian oscillations are pervasive across evolutionary time, from bacteria to humans, using a new molecular window into the clock - peroxiredoxin proteins.[6]
