Altai Republic has participated in the Turkvision Song Contest once since its début in 2013.[1] The Altaian broadcaster, STRC "Altai Mountains", has been the organiser of the Altaian entry since its début. In 2013, Altai Republic's first entry at Turkvision, Artur Marlujokov, qualified from the semi-final, and placed 5th in the final achieving 189 points.[2] Altai Republic withdrew from the 2014 contest.[3]

History

2013

Altai Republic made their debut in the Turkvision Song Contest 2013 in Eskişehir, Turkey.[1] Altai Republic held a national selection which took place on November 21, a total of 26 singers competed in the selection. On the jury were; Zatov Ismet – TMB TV Representative, Konçev Tatyana – Altai State Television General Manager, Kulyuev Alega – Gorniy Altai Media Advertising Agency General Director, Çultuev Alena – Altai State Artist and Moldorov Andrey – Composer. Artur Marljukov was selected by the jury to represent the Altai Republic.[4] On 5 December 2013 the song that Artur would sing at the contest was announced as "Altayym Menin" (Алтайым Менин).[5]

Artur Marlujokov qualified for the final of Turkvizyon 2013, Altai Republic finished in 5th in the final with 189 points.

2014

On 20 July 2014 it was announced that the Altai Republic would make their second appearance at the Turkvision Song Contest 2014 to be held in Kazan, Tatarstan in November 2014.[6] However, an updated participation list was published on 10 September 2014, which no longer shown Altai Republic as participating, although it is unknown as to why they do not show on the list.[3][7]

2015

On 17 November 2015 it was announced that Altai Republic would return to the contest having not participated in 2014.[8] The singer Emil Tolkochekov was internally selected to represent the region on their return.[8] On 28 November 2015 Altai Republic withdrew from the contest, this occurred after the Russian Government ordered TURKSOY members from Russia to not compete in the event.[9]
