The boundary between mountain and Pacific time in Idaho and Oregon is defined in Federal law as follows:[1]

From the junction of the Idaho-Montana boundary with the boundary between the United States and Canada southerly along the Idaho-Montana boundary to the boundary line between Idaho County, Idaho, and Lemhi County, Idaho; thence southwesterly along the boundary line between those two counties to the main channel of the Salmon River; thence westerly along the main channel of the Salmon River to the Idaho-Oregon boundary; thence southerly along that boundary to the boundary line between Baker County, Oreg., and Malheur County, Oreg.; thence westerly along the north line of Malheur County to the northwest corner of Malheur County; thence southerly along the west line of Malheur County to the southwest corner of T. 35 S., R. 37 E.; thence east to the Idaho-Oregon boundary; thence south along that boundary to the southwest corner of the State of Idaho; thence easterly along the Idaho-Nevada boundary to the northeast corner of the State of Nevada.

History

In 1923, the Standard Time Act of 1918 (also known as the Calder Act) was amended so as to move the part of Idaho south of the Salmon River to a different time zone.[2] (This apparently came into effect on May 13, 1923 at 2:00 a.m.) A typo in the 1923 provision was corrected in 2007 by Title III of Public Law 110–69, §3013(c)(4), 121 Stat. 599.

In 1974, when because of the energy crisis the United States moved to Daylight Saving Time in early January, the Boise zone delayed the switch to February 3 at 2:00 a.m.
