Ankit Love, Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir (born 7 August, 1983) is a British Kashmiri musician and claimant to the headship of the House of Dogra[1][2][3] as descendant of Raja Dhruv Dev.[4] He is also a descendant of Dogra rajput General and Vizier Zorawar Singh Kahluria.[5] He is the founder and leader of the One Love Party in the United Kingdom.[6][7][8]

Early Life

Ankit Love is the only son of Bhim Singh and Mala Jay founders of the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party.[9][10] His grandfather was Thakur Birbal Singh who fought for the Allies of World War II. Through his father's ancestry in Udhampur, Love is a member of the royal family.[11] His mother named him Love at birth,[12] hoping he would bring peace to Jammu and Kashmir embroiled in the prolonged and ongoing armed Kashmir conflict.[13][14]

He studied at the American Community School in Surrey, UK.[15] After which he studied acting at the California Institute of the Arts.[16][17]

Career

Ankit Love's 2012 music video Beethoven Burst was featured on MTV.[18][19] He released the music video Spill the Milky Way in 2014.[20]

He founded the techno-progressive, One Love Party in October 2015, which he leads.[21] Love decided to become involved in politics despite his father Bhim Singh's disapproval[22] after losing his Belgravia home[23] and having to live in hostel dorms in Hackney.[24][25]

Love was the youngest candidate for Mayor of London in 2016.[22] He has been three times candidate for Member of Parliament in Great Britain.[26][27] In the 2016 Richmond Park by-election he stood using the title of Maharaja Jammu and Kashmir.[28][29]

He has spoken out against human right abuses in Kashmir,[30] and campaigns theatrically for clean air and renewable energy.[31][32]
