Dr. Annuar bin Rapaee (born 18 November 1963) is a Member of Sarawak State Legislative Assembly for Nangka,and a cardiologist by profession.[1] Recently, he is also Assistant Minister in the Sarawak state cabinet.

Personal life

Born on 18 November 1963, he started his primary education at SK Perbandaran Sibu No.3 from 1970 to 1975, later continuing his secondary education at SMK Rosli Dhoby from 1976 to 1981.

After completing his secondary education,he pursued his tertiary study at Universiti Malaya, from 1981 to 1983 in matriculation at Pusat Sains Asasi. Later he continued his study at the same university until 1988, when he received his MBBS, which made him a certified doctor. He later pursued his post-graduate education at St James's University Hospital, Leeds, United Kingdom in Internal Medicine. After completing his studies at UK, he returned to Malaysia to continue his medical practice, and pursued his second postgraduate studies at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in Advance Master in Cardiology, from 1998 to 2001. Later in 2004,he went to Germany to undergo Subspeciality Advance Training at the renowned Deutsches Herzzentrum Berlin (English: German Heart Institute Berlin), Germany. He is an expert in the field of cardiac MRI imaging and has trained other cardiologists during his stint in UNIMAS Sarawak and Serdang Hospital in Selangor, Malaysia.

He is married to Dr. Haniza Zainal Abidin. He has two children, a daughter named Irynna Annuar, 19, and a son named Irfan Annuar, 15.[2]

Political career

His political career began when he was nominated as the candidate for the N49 Nangka, as the incumbent Member, Dato' Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah wished not to be re-nominated. In the 2011 state election, he was chosen as the new Member of the State Legislative Assembly, beating the PKR candidate Norisham Mohamed Ali, an engineer in the oil and gas industry, by a majority of 5,302 votes.[3]

On the 2016 state election, he successfully defended the Nangka seat, with bigger majority of 7,617 votes, beating the PKR candidate Abdul Raafidin Majidi and State Reform Party (STAR) candidate Simon Tiong.[4]

He took the oath of office as Assistant Minister at Chief Minister's Department on 19 May 2016, in a ceremony held at the State Legislative Assembly Complex,[5] with the portfolio of Science Research and Biotechnology.[6]
