Apratim Majumdar

Apratim Majumdar (born 1978), is an Indian classical musician from Kolkata, India. He plays the Sarod. His "Dhrupadee Veenkar" style of Ustad Alauddin Khan's Seni Veenkar Gharana: analytically imaginative prosodic progression with metrical waves of melodic phrases interwoven with highest order of technical brilliance and maturity reminds the great legends of the Gharana. He is an internationally recognized instructor of classical Indian music.[1]

Tutelage

He has been tutored and groomed by Rabin Ghosh, disciple of Ustad Alauddin Khan, under the strict discipline and style of Ustad Alauddin Khan Seni Veenkar Gharana of Maihar and Rampur for over nineteen years. Apratim's study in Music under Rabin Ghosh continues. Apratim also received training for a period of three years from Shree Partho Sarothy, disciple of Ustad Dhyanesh Khan and Pt. Ravishankar.[2]

Presently he is under training of Dr. Pradip Kumar Chakraborty, one of the seniormost disciples of Pt. Ravi Shankar.[3]

Awarded by "West Bengal State Music Akademi" and "The Dover Lane Music conference". "Sur Mani" title conferred by Sur Singar Samsad Mumbai. Performances

Apratim performed a number of prestigious concerts. Some of these are: at National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) - Mumbai, Swami Haridas Sangeet Sammelan - Mumbai, Vasantrao Chandorkar Smriti Pratisthan - Jalgaon, Kal Ke Kalakar Sangeet Sammelan - Mumbai, Indian Classical Music Young Talents' Conference - Kolkata, Swar-Sadhana Samiti - Mumbai, Uttarpara Sangeet Chakra Annual Music Conference (Kolkata), India International Center (Delhi) and many others.[2]

Apratim has also performed in Germany, France, Denmark, Switzerland,Italy, the Netherlands, Austria and Bangladesh.

Awards and achievements

He was awarded prizes by West Bengal State Music Akademi and The Dover Lane Music conference in the year 2000. He received the prestigious "Sur Mani" title by the Sur Singar Samsad Mumbai.[2] He is “Sangeet Bhaskar” (equivalent to Master in Music) from Pracheen Kalakendra, Chandigarh.

Apratim has composed music for number of Short films. He is teaching students in Guru-sishya-parampara style,doing Workshops and Lecture Demonstrations.He is also teaching online (skype).
