The Arab Fashion Council (AFC)(Arabic: مجلس الأزياء العربي ) is the world largest non-profit fashion council as an INGO for Arab World representing the 22 Arabic countries members of the Arab League and its main goal is to promote the Arab fashion designers internationally, disseminate the fashion culture in the region and position the Arab World in the international map of fashion. It adhere to its body the companies and the Arabic talents of the fashion industry in particular fashion designers, models, photographer, hair stylists, make-up artists and art directors. Likewise, it regulates the modelling agencies by drawing standards in order to protect models working in the Arab World. Finally. it regulates the schools of fashion registered under the laws of the Arabic countries.[1]

The Executive Honorary President is Cav. Lav. Mario Boselli [2] the former president of Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana.

On the 7th of December 2015, Jacob Abrian has been elected as Chief Executive Officer for the Council, being the youngest appointed CEO for a Council.

Structure

Founded in London under the Companies Acts 2006, where London has been selected as neutral city to represent equally the 22 Arabic Countries. The Arab Fashion Council operates through partnerships in the entire region, its structure is based on 6 main pillars in the form of hexagon and each pillar is represented by a different department.[3]

- Higher Management is formed from the board of directors, board of advisers and board of manager having the duty of running the council, regulation and strategic planning.

- Honorary Presidents is formed out of the Arabic Ladies from the Royal/Rulling families selected through invitation according to their notability, achievements in public sector and background. Their duty is to make sure that their country is well represented. Each Lady will act as the Honorary President of the Council in her Country.

- Honorary Pioneers are those public notable figures whose work has given important contribution to the civil society, charity and the Fashion industry. Among the pioneers are Ralph Debbas the founder of W Motors, Marc Ledermann the CEO of Domus Academy, and Ronnie Jackson.

- Ambassadors are those people who represent the image of the Arab Fashion Council, only admitted through invitation by the higher management.

- Associated Members are all the artists, designers, companies that are subscribed as ordinary associates to the Arab Fashion Council.

- Board of Deputies a board elected by the members to represent their voice at the council and attend the assemblies with the higher management.

Activities

A landmark activity of the Arab Fashion Council is to organize the twice yearly the prestigious event Arab Fashion Week presented by Huawei. It is the only official Fashion Week in Dubai and the Arab World. The Arab Fashion Week represents all 22 the Arabic Countries and is hosted in Dubai at The Meydan Hotel, promoting the talent into the global market where notable fashion brands show their Ready-Couture collection along to the Arab designers.[4]

Other fashion weeks similar to the event organized by the Arab Fashion Council are the New York Fashion Week, London Fashion Week, Milan Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week.

Education

In partnership with Domus Academy and with the support UNESCO Office in Doha the Arab Fashion Council promotes the Fashion Education and support the Arab talents by providing a fully covered scholarship for an Arab student after entering an annual competition to study masters in fashion design at the Domus Academy in Milan. [5]

Charity and peace

It is the first fashion association to work on a health and pension strategy to protect its members after reaching the age of 65.[6] In addition, it tries to achieve peace in the Middle East[7] through fashion inspired by the purposes United States Federation for Middle East Peace.
