Arthur Alston

St Simon's

Arthur Fawssett Alston (1872–1954) was an Anglican bishop, the third Bishop of Middleton from 1938 until 1943.^[1]

Educated at Clare College, Cambridge and Ridley Hall,^[2] he was ordained priest in 1896.^[3] A curacy at St Simon’s Southsea was followed with Yorkshire incumbencies. From there he became Rural Dean then Archdeacon of Hastings before becoming a Canon Residentiary of Manchester Cathedral, from which post he ascended to the Episcopate.

His son Rex Alston was a famous cricket commentator.
