Arthur Parham

The Rt. Rev.Arthur Grom Parham MC[1] (25 June 1883[2] –10 January 1961[3]) was the Anglican Bishop of Reading[4] from 1942 until 1954. He was educated at Magdalen College School, Oxford then Exeter College in the same city and ordained in 1910.

Beginning his ministry with a curacy at Bromley he was then appointed Chaplain of Magdalen College, Oxford. A period interrupted with World War I service as a Chaplain to the Forces during which he was twice Mentioned in Despatches and awarded the MC.

When peace returned he became Rector of Easthampstead, then Rural Dean of Reading[5] and finally (before his elevation to the Episcopate) Archdeacon of Berkshire.[6] In retirement he continued to serve the Church as an Assistant Bishop within the Diocese of Oxford.
