Asarganj is a suburban market in Munger district in the state of Bihar, India. Before independence it was known as Kachahari (court) of local Jamindar (tax collector of Raj Baneli, headed by Krishnanand Singh.) A famous Badi Durga mandir located at Hat Bazar, Jalalabad. Established by Raj Baneli. Every year during the Durga festival than gueen of sultanganj garh inaurated the festival and it was end on vijyadashmi with durga visarjan at Dhobia pokhar sitiuated at Narayanpur village, half kilometer west from mandir.

Geography

Asarganj is located at 25°09′N 86°41′E / 25.15°N 86.68°E / 25.15; 86.68.[1] It has an average elevation of 44 metres (144 feet).

Asarganj is situated at 12 km south from the railway station, Sultanganj. There is a very famous and a month-long festival "Bol-Bum" runs during the month of Saawan (August–September). After taking water from the Ganges river of Sultanganj (known locally as Uttar Wahini Ganga), the pilgrims, travel barefooted for 105 km by this route, and go to Deoghar (Baba Dhaam) to pour Gangajal on Lord Shiva (ShivLinga). In the Saawan month the whole of Asarganj dazzles with lights and happiness.

Asarganj is one of the places in Bihar famous for the production of quality rice. As the people are business oriented, this block is quickly developing. People are not only involved in this traditional occupation but also entering government jobs, as also in other fields like, engineering. Nearby villages are Narayanpur (famous for shiv mandir and garh of raja khapariya presently dih), kamargama, Darha, Saraun, Dhuriya, Makva in the west-Lakhanpur in the south - Kastikari, Rahmatpur in the east and Vikrampur in the north.[2] It is the place where people work in meals and mostly do wood related work. Asarganj is also popular for it's wood designing work which is involved in making sofas, different kinds of chairs, and all other equipment related to carpentry work. Business of cloths and vegetables are the source of income for Asarganj livers. Many coaching centers are also running here for the good education of students under matriculation. Private tutor like (uttam kumar choudhary) who has been working for around 25 years to enhance the level of students over here. There are almost 12-15 shops here where cloths are sold; people from far villages come here to shop. A very old and recognized school in Asarganj is milestone for others to remember this place which is situated at Jalalabad. Numerous students studied here in school named R n and P R high school jalalabad under the guidance of learned teachers like late Bimal Choudhary, Basudev Sah and many others who devoted their life for the best future of the students. One of the greatest teacher among them was Bimal Prasad Choudhary, whose life was so simple but of high thinking. He studied there and also became the head of this school after pursuing his study. People from all the areas know him and pronounce his name very respectfully. He was an ideal personality among all the teachers working in that school. Many doctors, engineers and civil officers were produced by him. He mostly taught English and geography but had an equal knowledge of all subjects. He had died at the early age of 60.

Devbrat Pandey an enterpreneur who had done MBA and worked in MNC have left the job and return to Asarganj. he opened school for development of Asarganj and Nearby Villages.


Demographics

As of 2001, India census,[3] Asarganj had a population of 5706. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Asarganj has an average literacy rate of 85%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 72% of the males and 70% of females literate. 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.
