Bad Martha Brewing Company

Bad Martha Brewing Company is an American microbrewery based on Martha’s Vineyard founded in 2013 by Jonathan Blum and Peter Rosbeck.[1][2]

History

Bad Martha Beer first appeared in stores on Martha’s Vineyard in June 2013 with two ales; Vineyard Summer Ale and Martha’s Vineyard Ale.[1] Both craft beers are brewed with real Martha’s Vineyard grape leaves.[1][2] The beer is sold on Martha’s Vineyard and in Boston, Massachusetts.[2]

Bad Martha Brewing Company is known for Bad Martha Beer which can be identified by a sensual dark haired woman on every bottle and “badism” saying under every cap.[3] The company donates 10% of its profits to feed the hungry in the communities where it is sold.[4]

In 2014, Bad Martha Brewing Company opened Bad Martha Farmer’s Brewery & Tasting Room, a tasting barn modeled after the wine tasting rooms in Napa Valley.[4] The brewery tasting room is located in Edgartown on Martha’s Vineyard and features a changing selection of seven beers brewed on site, along with three Bad Martha beers that are brewed by Mercury Brewing Company.[4][5][6]

Awards

Bad Martha Brewing Company won one silver medal and two bronze medals at the Great International Beer Festival in 2015. The silver medal was awarded for Bad Martha's Summer Ale (Light Ale-Golden category) and bronze medals for Roscoe's Brown Ale (Brown-Porter category) and Belgian Blonde (Belgian-Saison category). [7] In 2014, Bad Martha Brewing Company won three gold medals and two bronze medals. The three gold medals were awarded for Martha’s Vineyard Ale (ESB category), Export Lager (Dortmunder category) and Pumpkin Pie Bock (Fruit & Spice Lager category), and the two bronze medals for White IPA (Belgian Witbier category) and Tim’s Beach Plum Ale (Fruit & Spice Belgian category).[8]
