History

Bahooka was founded in 1967 in West Covina, California[1] and moved to its ultimate location at 4501 Rosemead Blvd.[2] in 1976.[3] It closed in March 2013.[4]

Menu and decor

Bahooka was known for its many fish tanks.[5] One of these held the famous pacu fish, Rufus, who was known for eating carrots[3] and for having appeared with Johnny Depp in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.[4] Rufus, planned at one time to be transferred to another restaurant in Glendale, will remain at the current site in the new restaurant.[6]

Bahooka served "standard Polynesian fare,"[5] including sticky "Exotic Ribs," teriyaki chicken breast, and so on.[2] The bar also served over 60 different tiki drinks,[7] including the "Jolly Roger Bowl"[2] and flaming drinks such as the "Bahooka Bowl."[5]
