Plot

"Bhutu" brings forth a five year old ghost protagonist who believes in family bonding, and has a 'never give up' attitude about relationships, relentlessly coming up with intelligent solutions, often giving rise to light comedy.

Bhutu Majumdar used to be a beloved daughter in a big joint family and the apple of her mother's eye. One day during a 'doll's wedding' (putuler biye) ceremony Bhutu fell down the stairs of her house and tragically lost her life. When she 'woke up' from her slumber albeit as a ghost, she found the house dark and deserted and to her dismay, her family had gone. She does not remember her death, believing instead that she had 'fallen asleep'.[3]

While Bhutu waits alone in the house for her family to return, the house is leased for new tenants and many families come to stay in the house from time to time. She meanwhile, befriends the successive families that come to inhabit the house as tenants and gets emotionally attached to these families as if they were her own. Displaying emotions of love, mischief and humor, she goes on in her life trying to set things right for the new tenants whom she frequently relates with her own family members being somewhat aware of her magical powers. [4]

Finally Bhutu's own family resettles in the house. Her family members also gradually becomes aware of her presence.
