Congregation Bikur Cholim Machzikay Hadath is a synagogue in the Seward Park neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. It is the oldest synagogue in Washington state.[1]

History

The congregation was founded in 1891.[2][3] Bikur Cholim moved to Seward Park in the early 1960s. Congregations Bikkur Cholim and Machzikay Hadath merged in 1971. On January 22, 1972, the new Congregation Bikur Cholim—Machzikay Hadath dedicated its new constructed Seward Park building.[4]

In an anti-Semitic incident in September, 2009, the synagogue was defaced with Nazi graffiti.[5][6]

In 2015, the synagogue is building a new Youth Center as part of its campus[7][8]

Rabbis

The rabbi of congregation Bikur Cholim Machzikay Hadath is Rabbi Yaakov Tanenbaum.[9]

Rabbi Moshe Kletenik was rabbi of the congregation from 1994 until June 2013.
