Birsa Ambedkar Phule Students' Association

Birsa Ambedkar Phule Students' Association or BAPSA is a student organization formed on 15 November 2014,[1] the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda and is active at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.[2][3] It works for student rights and issues of Other Backward Castes, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, Muslim, Kashmiris, students from the Northeast and LGBT community on campus.[4][5] It believes that Indian Communists failed to oppose 'Brahmanism' both culturally and politically.[6] In 2016 JNUSU Elections, BAPSA Presidential candidate Sonpimple Rahul Punaram secured second position with 1545 votes against the winner left candidate's 1954 votes.[7] This was a impressive achievement as BAPSA presidential candidate secured 500% more votes than its own 2015 nominee, Chinmaya Mahananda who got 300-odd votes.[8]
