Biswa Kalyan Rath (born 1990) is an Indian stand-up comedian and YouTuber. He is known for the YouTube series, Pretentious Movie Reviews where he reviews Bollywood films along with fellow stand-up comedian Kanan Gill.

Early life

In his childhood, Biswa studied in various schools across Odisha because his father, who worked in SBI, was often transferred. Biswa graduated from IIT Kharagpur with a B.Tech. degree in Biotechnology.[1]

Career

After graduation, Biswa worked in graphic design, advertising, and software. It was during this time that he met Kanan at an open mic event in Bangalore in 2013.[2] He later quit his job at Oracle in 2014 to become a full time comedian.[3]

Biswa and Kanan came up with the idea of the Pretentious Movie Reviews, a series of videos which soon went viral on YouTube. In this series, they review critically panned Bollywood movies, including Gunda, Prem Aggan. They also reviewed the film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.[4] Their videos often get widely shared on social media, including by other celebrities.[5] In 2014, he performed his first live show along with Kanan Gill in Gurgaon.[6]

He started doing stand-up comedy in 2015 and went on his first solo national tour, Biswa In your face in September 2015, doing shows in Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kolkata.[7] In 2015, he hosted the Comedy Hunt along AIB and other acclaimed comedians.[8]
