Real Life Murder

Ed Sherman's murder of his wife Ellen on August 3, 1985 in Connecticut[1] was partly inspired by this movie. Just like the movie, Sherman killed his wife then turned on the air conditioner in order to slow decomposition of her remains in an attempt to establish an alibi. Sherman was later sentenced to fifty years in prison in 1992, but died of a heart attack after serving almost four years.[2] This murder was featured in the Forensic Files episode "A Dinner and a Movie."[3]
