Brendan Fernandes

Brendan Fernandes (born December 29, 1979) is a Kenyan-born Canadian artist of Goan descent who specialized in performance and sculpture.[1] He obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from York University and Master of Fine Arts from the University of Western Ontario. He also completed the Independent Study Program of the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York City.[2][3] His work was exhibited at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum as well as the Museum of Art and Design in New York, the National Gallery of Canada, Art Gallery of Hamilton and Andy Warhol Museum.[4][5][6][7]

Awards and recognition

Fernandes is a recipient of several awards and nominations. He was a finalist for the Sobey Art Award in 2010 and on the list from 2013 till date.[8][9][10] In 2007 he was named Artist of the Year by the South Asian Visual Arts Collective.[11] He awarded residencies by The Canada Council, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and the Gyeonggi Creation Center at the Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, Korea[12][13][14] ZKM, Karlsruhe, Germany,[15] and a Robert Rauschenberg Residency Fellowship.[16]
