Buddleja × lewisiana is an American hybrid of Buddleja madagascariensis and Buddleja asiatica first described and named by T H Everett in 1947, and introduced to commerce in 1958.[1][2] The taxonomy of the plant remains a matter of contention.
Description
Buddleja × lewisiana is a lax, spreading shrub growing to a height of 2 m. The young shoots are densely felted with a white indumentum, and bear similarly felted lanceolate leaves < 17 cm long. The inflorescences comprise slender panicles, 20 cm long, of yellow or orange flowers.[2]
Cultivation
The hybrid is tender, requiring greenhouse protection during winter in the UK. Hardiness: USDA zones 8–9.[2]
