The Busyconinae comprise a taxonomic subfamily of very large edible sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks, often known as the Busycon whelks, in the family Buccinidae.
Taxonomy
Genera Busycon and Busycotypus were placed in the Melongenidae.[1] Based on digestive system and on cladistic analysis[1] subfamily Busyconinae was moved to the Buccinidae. The same placement is also in the taxonomy of the Gastropoda by Bouchet & Rocroi (2005) and the subfamily Busyconinae consists of two tribes:
