Geography

Chekkulam is situated about 2.5 km from Kozhencherry. At the Chekkulam junction, there are few shops and one public library.

Community life

There is a library calls 'The National Library & Reading Room'. In associate with this library there is a National Arts and Sports club in Chekkulam with many active young members and many social services have been provided through this club. This village is famous for its paddy cultivation and green fields. This year Leaders of various political parties, people's representatives, extended support to cultivate paddy filed which are not used many years.

There is a small ground for Chekkulam near the Chekkulam Marthoma Church. Cricket and Volleyball are the main games played here.

Religion

The two major religions of Chekkulam are Christianity and Hinduism. The largest sect of Christianity are the Marthomites(http://www.marthomasyrianchurch.org/). A small church is the branch of the main Church, St.Thomas Mar Thoma Church, Kozhencherry. About 50 families constitute the congregation. No tensions exist between the Christians and the Hindus in this region.
