Christine Chaundler

Christine Chaundler (5 September 1887 - 15 December 1972 ) was a British children's author, who also wrote under the name "Peter Martin".[1]

Born in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, the daughter of a solicitor, Henry Chaundler and Constance Julia Chaundler (née Thompson), Chaundler was educated at Queen Anne's School, Caversham, and St Winifred's School, Llanfairfechan.

Apart from a brief stint in the Land Army in World War I, Chaundler worked in various editorial jobs while she built her writing career.

Writing career

1n 1912 Chaundler won a poetry contest, and so her first work was published. She became a prolific author of children's novels, for boys under her pseudonym "Peter Martin" and for girls under her own name. She also wrote many short stories for magazines.

By the late 1940s, the market for these types of children's books had changed and Chaundler switched to reviewing books.
