Clement John Koshorek (June 20, 1925 – September 8, 1991) was an infielder in Major League Baseball. He played for the Pittsburgh Pirates.[1]

Detroit Tigers prospect

Koshorek's minor league career was spent in the farm system of the Detroit Tigers. Playing shortstop for the Flint Arrows of Flint, Michigan, in the Central League (baseball), Koshorek was nicknamed ′′Scooter′′. He was considered a good baseball player but quit the game after he was turned down for a raise in pay by Tigers farm director Red Rolfe. Koshorek was eventually reinstated by the Tigers, playing for the Charleston Senators of the South Atlantic League.[2]

Pittsburgh Pirates infielder

An article in the June 1958 issue of Baseball Digest includes Koshorek with other small in stature infielders like Rabbit Maranville, Sparky Adams, Phil Rizzuto, and Frank Scalzi. These players, the writer noted, had to do more to impress baseball scouts.[3] After infielder George Strickland batted just .216 and committed 37 errors in 1952, Pirates' general manager Branch Rickey, gave up on him. He pinned his hopes on Dick Groat and Koshorek.[4]
