Colégio Santo Antônio (St. Anthony School) is a Brazilian Franciscan school located in the Savassi neighborhood of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. It is maintained by Casa de Santo Antonio (St. Anthony House).

History

The school was established at São João del Rei, Minas Gerais, on 1 May 1909, by Order of Friars Minor and solidified itself as a benchmark in education, welcoming students from all over the country.

In late 1940, the leaders moved the school to Belo Horizonte, the state capital, to better prepare students for entry into the Federal University of Minas Gerais (known as the University of Minas Gerais at that time). At the same time, the Commissioner of Santa Cruz Province was disengaged from the Holy Martyrs Gorcumienses province, of the Netherlands, when the first became an independent one.

With the direction of Brother Bertrando, Pedro Schretlen and with help of other members, the school installed on the Pernambuco street, 880, the district officials, on February 17, 1950 when an inaugural Mass was celebrated in a makeshift chapel. The school also began to support the autonomy of the Franciscan province just created.

That same year, worked seven classes of science (current school), and two years later came the first classes of the gymnasium (equivalent to the second half of today's key).

In 1972, the unit of São João del Rei, the High School San Antonio, finally ended its activities, leaving the building for the municipality of that city. In the old building, started to run the Municipal Foundation of Sao Joao del Rei, one of the entities forming the Federal University of São João del-Rei.

The Franciscans always drove the school, keeping it true to the principles of the order. After the death of Brother Bertrando have passed the school Frei Felix, from 1959 to 1962; Frei Humbertino Backes, Eduardo Copray and Giraldi, from 1962 to 1967; Frei Aristides Kasbergen; from 1967 to 1984; Fr Dario Campos, from 1984 to 1991; Hilário Meekes, from 1991 to 2000.

In 2001, the Freis (Friars) took charge Francisco Carvalho Neto, Gilberto Teixeira, José Roberto Garcia and Pedro Carlos Ferreira. In 2002 and 2003, respectively, Zé Roberto and Pedro left the direction of the school, and Frei Flávio Silva Vieira continued the work in the area of pastoral care.

Frei Jonas Nogueira da Costa took over the ministry in late 2006. Frei Jacir de Freitas Faria is also Director General and Pedagogical since late 2006. Since late 2007, Frei Alexsandro Rufino da Silva is the Director Administrative and Financial.
