Daniyal Sultan

Daniyal Sultan was the last ruler of the Elisu Sultanate. He was born on 9 January 1803 at İlisu and was the second son of Sultan Ahmed Khan II and his Wife Tuti Bika Khanum, a daughter of Shahmardan Khan of Gazikumukh Khanate. After the death of his older brother Musa Bey, he was appointed by the Russian General Ivan Paskevich, as the new Sultan of Elisu Sultanate and ruled it since 1831 until 1844. After living for a while in Shaki Khanate, Sultan Daniyal went to exile to Istanbul in 1869 and died there in 1873. He was a good Friend to Sultan Abdülaziz of the Ottoman Empire. He was married with Baba Bika Khanum, a daughter of Ahmed Khan from Mehtuli, and had one son, Prince Musa Bey, and four daughters: Princess Nene Khanum, Princess Begyum Khanum , Princess Imi Khanum and Princess Karemat Khanum who married Muhammad Gazi the oldest son of Imam Shamil, she was later send as a Hostage to Russia. His descendants lives today in Azerbaijan, in the Citys: Qakh (city), Shaki, Azerbaijan, Nəbiağalı, Goychay (city), Ganja, Azerbaijan, and Baku, and take ne surename Sultanov as male and Sultanova as female. Also in Turkey lives descendants in the Citys: Istanbul, Edirne, Izmir, Bodrum and Babaeski, and take the surename Sultansoylu.
