David Crawshay (born 11 August 1979) is an Australian Olympic gold-medal winning and former national champion rower from Victoria. He represented for Australia in rowing at three consecutive Olympic games from Athens 2004 to London 2012.
Rowing career
Born in Carlton, Crawshay attended Melbourne Grammar School. His senior rowing has been with the Mercantile Rowing Club based on the Yarra River in Melbourne.
Crawshay is a three-time Australian national sculling champion, winning gold in Victorian colours in the President's Cup race at the Interstate Regatta at the Australian Rowing Championships on four occasions, in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2012.[1]
Crawshay's first Australian Olympic selection was for the 2004 Athens when he rowed in the Australian quad scull who won their B final.[2] With his teammate Scott Brennan, Crawshay won the gold medal in the men's double sculls at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.[3]
At the 2009 World Rowing Championships in Poznań he finished 2nd in the men's quadruple sculls (M4x) event, along with Nick Hudson, Jared Bidwell, and Daniel Noonan.[4]
At the 2010 World Rowing Championships in Karapiro he finished 3rd in the men's quadruple sculls (M4x) event, along with Karsten Forsterling, James McRae, and Daniel Noonan.[5]
Brennan and Crawshay teamed up again for 2012 London.[6] They finished in second place in the B final for an overall eighth place in the 2012 Olympic rankings.
On the 19th of March, Crawshay announced his retirement from international rowing.[7] Crawshay was initially selected to represent Victoria in the President's Cup single scull at the 2016 Interstate Regatta, but he was replaced by Karsten Forsterling.
