Neutrality Day of Turkmenistan (Turkmen: Bitaraplyk baýramy) is the second most important state holiday in Turkmenistan. This date is celebrated in Turkmenistan annually on December 12.[1][2][3]
History
December 12, 1995 was adopted by the UN General Assembly Resolution number 50/80,[4] which expressed the hope that "the status of permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan will contribute to peace and security in the region." In the resolution, the United Nations "recognizes and supports the declared status of permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan ." Such a unique document adopted for the first time in the work of the international community of nations. Support for UN neutrality - a rare phenomenon in more than half a century of the history of this international organization. The resolution calls on UN to respect and maintain the neutrality of Turkmenistan. For its adoption at the session of the UN General Assembly voted 185 member states of the international community .
In Neutrality Day across the Central Asian republic are mass festivities and holiday concerts. Ashgabat hosts international conference.[5]
In 2012, the country for the first time just resting, all events on this date took place in the previous days.[6]
