Dead Effect 2 is a 2015 video game developed and published by BadFly Interactive. It is a sequel to Dead Effect.[1]

Gameplay

The gameplay mechanics of Dead Effect 2 are similar to the original game. In the default setup, movement is controlled by a virtual joystick on the left of the screen, with sight and aim controlled by the player moving their finger across the touchscreen, although there are two shortcut buttons on the left and right of the screen to allow the player to instantly turn 90 degrees to the left or right. Players can use bombs, iron sights, reload, change weapons, shoot and enter slow motion mode using virtual buttons on the right of the screen. Controls can be customized from the main menu, with each icon individually repositionable as the player sees fits. Unlike the original game player character fires automatically when his reticle rests on enemy.[2]

In story mode, the player can play as Gunnar Davis, Jane Frey or Kay Rayner. Unlike the first game there is difference in weaponry. Davis is a specialist in heavy weaponry, Jane Frey uses shotgun and Rayner uses melee weapons. Davis features gameplay that is the most similar to the original game.[3]

The Steam version of the game hase been released on May 6, 2016 and feature a Cooperative Multi-player and PvP Multi-player.[4] Original Soundtrack and digital Art book are included.

Story

The story follows where the original left off. It is set on Spaceship ESS Meridian after the death of Professor Wagner, the antagonist in the first game. The player has to fight soldiers sent to the facility. The other protagonists include Danette, who was also a lab experiment and apparently was born in the ship. Another is Minikin, who is the best (and probably only) mechanic on the ship. He suffered brain damage while in cryostasis, being considered by the main character to be "retarded". He's the character who you would go to for weapons, weapon upgrades, etc. Doctor Bielik is a scientist whom you save and was working on your character by inserting implants all over the character's body before the infection. He is the person whom you go to for implant upgrades and gear. This was made by Trey the Boss.

Reception

Dead Effect 2 has received positive reviews and has a score of 78% on Metacritic.[5]

Possible sequel

BadFly Interactive’s CEO and Creative Director Lubomír Dykast said that BadFly Interactive works on a game that will take place in the same game universe although it won't be a direct sequel to Dead Effect 2.[6]
