The Democratic Party (Maltese: Partit Demokratiku, PD) is a centre-left[1] political party in Malta. It was founded on 4 June 2016 by MP Marlene Farrugia, who had been initially elected as a Labour MP.

The party stated that there is need for a new political voice, and the time of the traditional dominant parties (Labour and Nationalist) is over.[2]

On 21 October 2016, an AGM was held at the residence of Marlene Farrugia who was elected as Leader of the party whilst confirming the party executive. The term length for the executive has been set for two years. The party will contest the next Maltese general election which takes place in 2018.

In addition, the four members elected to the executive council are Professor Matthew Montebello, Catherine Farrugia, Alex Clayman and Carmel Polidano.
