Draw4Atena

Draw4Atena is a campaign for supporting Atena Farghadani, the Iranian cartoonist and activist who is sentenced to more than 12 years in prison for drawing Iranian leaders as monkeys and cows.[1]

The campaign has been established after an open letter by US-based campaign group Cartoonists Rights Network International,[2] and an appeal by cartoonist Michael Cavna in Washington post.[3]

Afterwards, the artists and cartoonists around the world have been sharing their cartoons across social media to help raise awareness of her case. The #draw4atena is created in social networks such as Facebook, Twitter .[4] etc. The Guardian official website has accepted the cartoons to share globally.[5]

In Atena's cartoon, she has criticised a draft law which would restrict access to birth control. She faces charges of spreading propaganda, insulting MPs, and insulting the supreme leader. Amnesty International considers her a prisoner of conscience.[1]
