Elif may refer to:
See "Aleph" "Alpha" and "A" as origins for this meaning of this first name for girls that came into popular fashion in Turkey in the 20th century. The name was commonly used by Ataturk during the revolutionary war to honour women who helped at the war front, taking the first steps as women in the revolution. He later granted women the right to vote without a referendum, a progressive move for a new nation.
The name has origins that can be traced all over the ancient world, and as such should not be attributed to one culture only.
