Engifest is the annual cultural festival of Delhi Technological University (formerly Delhi College of Engineering).[1] Usually held in the month of February, it is one of the most popular college festivals in North India. It is a three-day-long celebration of potential talent and skills of the youth wherein enthusiastic youngsters from all over India come and participate. Engifest’16 was held from 13th to 15 February. It witnessed a footfall of more than 40,000 and participation from over 250 colleges across the country.

True to its tradition, Engifest’17 will take place in mid of February, 2017.

Introduction

Engifest is one of the largest college cultural festivals of the country, amongst others like Mood Indigo and Rendezvous.[2] It is a student-run non-profit organization which caters primarily to youth and its success. Engifest includes a variety of events such as car and bike show, drag racing, cultural performances, live wire-star night, rock shows,[3] plays on social problems, dances, and others. In the past Engifest has been studded by artists like Vishal–Shekhar, Mohit Chauhan,[4][5] Lagori band, DJ NYK, Boogie Frantick, Bhuvan Bam, VJ Bani, Aditi Arya, Salman Khan, Kumar Vishwas, Karan Kundra, Hard Kaur,[6] Suraj Jagan, Raftaar, Manj Musik and Shibani Kashyap.

History

Engifest as the name goes means "Engineer's Festival",is one of the oldest College cultural festivals in the country. The stories of its success dates back to 1974, when it was just started by a bunch of enthusiastic DCEians. Delhi Technological University was earlier known as Delhi College of Engineering, before 2009 when it was upgraded to DTU.[7] With every year passing by ,the fest grew bigger and better.

Events

Competitions are held pre-dominantly in the genres of Dance, Music, Indoor Sports, Dramatics, Fine Arts, Film and Photography (Digital), Literature, Debating and Quizzing. Teams from various colleges participate in these events to win prizes and showcase their talents.[8]

Main Events

Live Wire Star Power- in its most tangible form. Famed personalities like Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani graced the event in Engifest’16, attracting a huge crowd and adding a generous splash of glamour. Various bands like Lagori and Antariksh also enthralled the audience with their power-packed band performances.

Campus Princess - Miss India Organization Campus Princess- a preliminary round for Femina Miss India, where the top 20 participants walk the ramp to be shortlisted for subsequent rounds. In Engifest’16, it was judged by Miss India World 2015 - Aditi Arya.

Switch The Funk Up It is one of the most fanatical street dance event in which around 200 dancers from across the country participate and battle with each other. Boogie Frantick, one of the known poppers from California USA was invited as a special judge for the event in Engifest’16 and Engifest’15 featured the famous Korean popping star – Hoan.

NUKKAD and NATYA – Street Play Pratibimb, the dramatics society of DTU organizes NUKKAD – Street play competition and NATYA – Stage play competition. Young artists come out in the open and deliver powerful and breath-taking performances on diverse social issues, amusing not only the theatre enthusiasts but also the rest of the audience.

DoReMiPa : A Musical Extravaganza Madhurima, The Music Society of DTU organizes various musical events. In Engifest’16, young talented singers participated in variegated competitions like: 1. Vocalicious, the western solo singing competition 2. Balladeers - Western group singing competition 3. Vrind - Indian Group Singing 4. Engi Idol -Indian solo singing competition

Syaahi - The Literary Fest Founded with the spirit to encourage literary talent and explore the arena of poetry and prose, Syaahi – The Literary Society of DTU witnesses an outpour of logical, linguistic and debating prowess.

Spandan – The Western Dance Competition Saltare, the western dance society of DTU organizes the western dance competition: Spandan. It provides a competetive environment for dancers to showcase their talent. It consists of different categories like Solo dance competition and Western group dance competition.

The Engi Quiz The youngsters get their wits sharpened and knowledge replenished with the quiz which spreads over 9 rounds with two prelim slots.

Shakedown Souls of Speed organizes Shakedown: one-of-a-kind roadshow in which daredevil stunts are pulled off with glib skill and sheer valour. Engifest’16 shakedown consisted of numerous racing events like Car Drag Racing Event, Super Bike Show, Car & Bike Stunts, Car show and Car Audio Event.

Anushthaan : Classical Dance Competition Anushthaan, organized by Nrityangana, The Classical Dance Society of DTU, truly depicts the glorified culture and traditions of India. It consists of performances ranging from Gujarat's Garba to Punjab’s Bhangra, from Bharatnatyam to Kathak.

Kaleidoscope Film Festival Kaleidoscope is the official film festival of Engifest, conducted by Parchhayi, the photography and film making society of DTU. Magnificent works of art in the form of short films are showcased and judged by prominent figures in the film industry.

Paridhan – The Fashion Parade A celebration of style, confidence and grace; Paridhan, took place on the second day of the Engifest’16.Young confident girls carried themselves with elegance and grace.

Informals

Engifest conducts a variety of informal events to keep the enthusiastic youth engaged all the time. In 2016, Fun City was one the major hits, it included fun events like Paintball, Pool, Air Hockey, Poker, Lazer tag, Street soccer, and also all sorts of video games. Not to forget the ‘Bugs Gaming Lounge’ which entertained the crowd with excellent music , from Punjabi hit songs to famous mashups and Billboard hits. A host of exciting Online Events were also conducted on the Engifest's Facebook page like “Let the story never end”, “Humoticon”, “Dub the Villian”,etc. Engifest’16 also witnessed some romantic events like Prom Night and Blind Date on the 14th of February which made Valentines all the more special for some. Events such as Go Karting, Tug of war, Minute-to-Win, Mechanical Bull, etc also perceive a large participation throughout the 3 day long festival.
