Eric Lockwood (October→December 1932[1] — 27 February 2014) born in Lupset, Wakefield, was an English professional rugby league footballer of the 1950s and '60s, playing at club level for Holy Trinity Boys Club ARLFC, Wakefield Trinity (Heritage #613), and Doncaster, as a Fullback, or Stand-off/Five-eighth, i.e. number 1, or 6,[2] he joined the armed forces from school.

Playing career

Eric Lockwood made his début for Wakefield Trinity, and scored a try in the 26-18 victory over Huddersfield at Belle Vue on Saturday 28 November 1953, he scored a try on each of his first three appearances, he played Stand-off/Five-eighth for the first three years before moving to Fullback in early 1957, he won the Wakefield Trinity Supporters' Player of the year award for the 1956–57 Northern Rugby Football League season, he was a 'possible' for the 1959 Rugby league Ashes series, but injury eventually prevented his inclusion, then the arrival of Donald Metcalfe in 1957, and Gerry Round in 1958 and their form began to restrict him to 'A' Team appearances, he played his final game for Wakefield Trinity against Hull at The Boulevard on Saturday 5 March 1960, he was transferred to Doncaster in August 1961.[3]

Eric Lockwood was the youngest brother of Mavis Lockwood (birth registered during July→September 1924 in Wakefield district), Frank Lockwood (birth registered during April→June 1926 in Wakefield district), rugby league footballer Gerald Lockwood, and Ronald Lockwood (birth registered during April→June 1930 in Wakefield district). Eric Lockwood's marriage to Brenda Armitage was registered during April→June 1956 in Lower Agbrigg district.[4] They had children; Carl Lockwood (birth registered during April→June 1961 (age 5455)

in Wakefield district), and Richard Lockwood (birth registered during October→December 1967 (age 4849)

in Wakefield district). Carl Lockwood married Susan Davies, they have one child; Eleanor Lockwood, the only grandchild of Eric Lockwood.
