ForRent.com, a subsidiary of Dominion Enterprises, Inc., is an online apartment search website. The website enables property management companies to advertise apartment units and renters to search for apartments, lofts, townhouses, or condos throughout the United States. ForRent.com is free to renters, but receives advertising dollars from people who list their apartments on the site. It was founded as For Rent magazine in 1982, currently headquartered at 150 Granby Street, Norfolk, Virginia, United States and privately owned and operated.

History

ForRent.com began as For Rent Magazine in Seattle, Washington in 1982 as a part of United Advertising Publications, Inc. (UAP was formerly known as Diversified Communications, Inc.). It quickly grew by adding publications up and down the west coast and across the mid-west. In 1994, Southwest Apartment Guide was acquired. By the mid-1990's, For Rent Magazine covered most of the United States. ForRent.com, the company’s Internet listing service, launched in 1997. In 2000, Trader Publishing, which was established in 1991, acquired United Advertising Publications, Inc. Thereafter, CorporateHousing.com, a short-term housing advertising service, and SeniorOutlook.com magazine and website were also added, as were the Spanish language Para Rentar magazines. Dominion Enterprises was formed in 2006, following a division of assets of Trader Publishing. With this division, the company branded itself as For Rent Media Solutions to reflect its various product solutions for the multifamily housing industry, including ForRent.com, as a subsidiary of Dominion Enterprises.
