Francesco "Pecco" Bagnaia (born 14 January 1997 in Turin) is an Italian Grand Prix motorcycle racer. He currently competes in the Moto2 World Championship for the VR46 team.[1]

Career

Early career

Born in Torino (Italy), Bagnaia was successful in Minimoto and he won the European MiniGP championship in 2009. Bagnaia made his preGP 125 mediterranean championship debut with Monlau Competicion team in 2010 and finished 2nd in the championship. In the 2012 CEV Moto3 championship he rode the Honda Moto3 NSF250R and finished 3rd in the championship points table. Bagnaia was also a member of VR46 riders academy.

Moto3 world championship

2013

In 2013, Bagnaia made his Grand prix debut with Team Italia FMI with Romano Fenati as his partner riding a Honda. 2013 Moto3 season was disappointing for Bagnaia as he does not manage to get a single point in the entire season.

2014

In 2014, Bagnaia switched team to join Sky Racing Team by VR46 riding a KTM with same partner Romano Fenati. He finished the season at 16th position with 50 points for the championship.

2015

In the 2015 , Bagnaia made another team change joining Aspar racing team BY Mahindra where he got his first podium in France Grand prix and finished the race at 3rd place. But that was his only podium finish in the 2015 season where he eventually finished 14th at the championship table with 76 points to his name.

2016

In 2016, Bagnaia started the season with a podium finish in Qatar and another podium finish at Spain. Finishing 3rd on both occasions. At his home race at Mugello Bagnaia secured another 3rd position.Followed by a crash at Barcelona, Bagnaia secured his first Grand Prix win at the historic Assen circuit in his 59th moto3 race and it was the first win for Mahindra too. After two average races and a crash at Czech race, Bagnaia got his first pole position in the rain affected Britain grand Prix and finished Second in a intense race. He finished the season with 145 points to place 5th in the Moto3 Championship with a total of 2 wins and 6 podiums.
