Franz van Stampart (born in Antwerp 12 June 1675 – died 3 April 1750 in Vienna) was a painter of Flemish origin, whose career was spanned throughout Europe, working for the Courts of Emperor Charles VI and Leopold I, Holy Roman Emperor[1] and then working in the studio of Godfrey Kneller in England.

Life

Franz van Stampart was the pupil of John van Sypen[2] who was the painter who had documented Wemyss Castle in Fife, Scotland. His career was mainly as a portrait painter and many works of his can be found in Museums in Brussels, Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, Vienna, Kunsthistorisches Museum, Orléans, Musée des Beaux-Arts.
