George Rorrer

George T. Rorrer, Jr. (1932/33-June 27, 2012) was a sportswriter and author.

Personal life

Rorrer attended Marshall University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts. In the 1960s, he taught journalism at the school and in 1993, he was inducted into the Marshall University School of Journalism Hall of Fame. He died on June 27, 2012 at age 79.[1]

Professional career

Rorrer wrote for the Louisville Times and Louisville Courier-Journal, served as sports editor of the Huntington Herald-Dispatch, worked for the Raleigh Herald and contributed to the Cincinnati Enquirer.[2][3] He covered numerous sports, including baseball, football, horse racing and basketball.[4] His work was referenced by publications such as Baseball America.[5]

As an author, he penned The Redbirds: A Love Affair and Redbirds: Thanks a Million, both about the Louisville Redbirds baseball team.[6]
