George Williams (born 31 October 1994) is an English professional rugby league player for Wigan Warriors in the Super League.[1] He primarily plays at stand-off.

Playing career

Williams played his junior rugby at local amateur team Wigan St Patricks. He was signed by Wigan in 2012 and played in their junior teams before being promoted to the first team squad for the 2013 season.

2013

Williams made his debut in the Challenge Cup 4th Round against Championship side Leigh Centurions. He came off the bench to score and convert his own try. George featured in Round 15 (London Broncos) and Round 18 (Widnes Vikings) to Round 19 (Warrington Wolves). Williams scored against London Broncos (1 try).

2014

Williams featured in Round 5 (Hull KR) to Round 24 (Hull KR). He also featured in Round 4 (Dewsbury Rams) to the Quarter Final (Castleford Tigers) in the Challenge Cup. He scored against Dewsbury Rams (1 try, 3 goals), London Broncos (4 goals), Bradford Bulls (1 try, 4 goals), Doncaster RLFC (1 try), Hull FC (3 tries) and Salford Red Devils (1 try).

2015

George played in the World Club Series against Brisbane Broncos. Williams featured in Round 1 (Widnes Vikings) then in Round 3 (Hull KR) to Grand Final (Leeds Rhinos). Williams played in the Challenge Cup in Round 6 (Hull KR). He scored against Hull KR (3 tries), Leeds Rhinos (1 try), Hull FC (1 try), Huddersfield Giants (1 try), St Helens RLFC (1 try) and Castleford Tigers (1 try).

2016

Williams featured in Round 1 (Catalan Dragons) then in Round 3 (Salford Red Devils) to Round 4 (Hull FC). He also featured in the World Club Series (Brisbane Broncos). George scored against Brisbane Broncos (1 try) and Hull FC (1 try).

International career

After an outstanding Super League 2015 season, Williams was selected in the England team for their test series against New Zealand. Williams made his debut for England in a test match, before the series, against France which saw Williams score a try in England's rout of their opponents.[2]

In October 2016, Williams was selected in the England squad for the 2016 Four Nations.

Awards

Williams was awarded the Super League Young Player of the Year award at the Man of Steel awards on 5 October 2015.[3]
