Gerson Fraga Vieira (born 4 October 1992), or simply Gerson, is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a centre back for Mumbai City FC, on loan from Grêmio. He became famous for being the captain of Brazil U-17.[1] His leadership among young players earned him the nickname of President in the national team.[2]

Career

Grêmio

Gerson Vieira began his journey in football at age 8, when he arrived at the small schools of Gremio.His technical abilities and imposing presence earned him over time, a prominent place in the youth setup of the club. In a span of four seasons, he won six titles: Efipan in 2006 ; Gauchão Children and Cup Brazil U-15 in 2007, Copa Santiago in 2008 ; and Brasileirão U-20 and Gauchão Youth in 2009.[3]

In January 2013, he took part in the pre-season for the team that would play the 2013 Copa Libertadores ,but eventually lost his place to Bressan.[4]

Oeste

In January 2012 Gremio loaned the player to Oeste for five months.[5]

Red Bull Brasil

After spending the entire 2013 season in the B team of Grêmio, he was loaned to Red Bull Brasil in December 2013.[6]

Atenas

Uruguayan Primera División club Atenas announced the signing of the defender in July 2014 for one season.[7] The player was part of the team in the campaign that earned the club a modest 12th place in the table.

Red Bull Brasil

After being a starter in the season 2014/15 of Atenas in Uruguay, it was announced he will be joining for the second half at Red Bull Brazil, the team that he had already played for at the beginning of last season.[8]

Mumbai City

On 28 June 2016 it was announced that Gerson has signed for Mumbai City in the Indian Super League.[9]

International

Gerson wears the national colours since 2006 for various age group teams of Brazil.He was the champion of Mediterranean International Cup held in Barcelona , South American U-15 and U-17 champion and champion and best player in the Sendai Cup 2009 in Japan.His leadership qualities earned him the captain's armband in Brazil at all levels, except the first, when he was 14 years old.[10]
