Iran–Iraq War (KIA)

Major General Ghafour Jeddi Ardabili (Persian: غفور جدی اردبیلی; 1945 1980)[1] was a professional McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II pilot in the Air Force of Iran.[2] He had a role in the early months of the Iran-Iraq War to stop Iraqi tanks from further advancing into the western Iranian territories.[3] His statue is placed in Tehran by City Council[4] and hometown Ardabil.[5]

Early life

He was born in 1945 in Ardabil. After finishing school, he had accepted in Iran's air force college and after that for advance training he sent to the USA in 1969.[6]

Iran-Iraq war

At the start of Iran-Iraq War, his friends suggested him to live Iran, but he said: "Government paid for us in peace status for these days."

End of life

In first 45 days of his operation in war, he had more than 80 air missions. In his last mission near Basra, faced more than 40 enemy camouflaged tanks. He succeeded to eliminate Iraq's 9th armour division, but his flight fighter was aimed by enemy. He could come back to Iran's borders but didn't succeed to reach his base. Finally, his flight fighter fallen on Mahshahr-Abadan 7th kilometer.[7]
