Golam Mohammad Rabbani (Bengali: গোলাম মোহাম্মদ রাব্বানি; also known as Nayan Bangalee) is a Bangladeshi lawyer,[2] politician,[3][4] Human Rights activist, founder president of Bangladesh Youth Forum.[5][6]

Early life and education

Rabbani was born on 3 February 1973. His father's name is Ekramul Haq and mother's name is Meherunnessa Haq.

He completed his honours and masters in social welfare[5] from Dhaka University securing first class first in Masters. He also achieved his second graduation in LLB from National University and LLM from World University. He did his Post Graduate Diploma on Human Rights from Dhaka International University. He completed two certificate courses on Conflict Analysis and Dispute Resolution from United State Institute of Peace,Washington. He joined in 2014 the Master’s program for Research on “Victomology and restorative Justice” in ISWR, Dhaka university.

He has a Ph.D in International Law[5] from The University of New Castle.[6]

Career

As a lawyer

Rabbani started his career as an intern in International Labour Organization in 1998.[6] He was enrolled in Bar Council in 2002. At first he was approved by the Bar Council for Dhaka bar Association and after seven years he got the enrollment and approval of the Bangladesh Supreme Court.

Rabbani is a lawyer of Bangladesh Supreme Court. He is a member of the Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association,[7] the Dhaka Bar Association, the New York City Bar Association and the Country Representative of Commonwealth Lawyers Association.[5] He attended over 25 international seminars and conferences. He also seeking a license as a social worker from USA and a working as a member of International Foundation of Social Worker, Geneva.His vision to see the Bangladesh as a social welfare state in future

As a politician

Golam Mohammad Rabbani is currently president of BNP unit of Chauddagram municipality.[3][4] He is a central executive leader of BNP Jubodal as an Information and Communications Secretary. He is a central President of Jatiotabadi Nagorik Dal (Civil Rights Movement)in Bangladesh. He also assigned as a Joint Secretary of Jatiotabadi Ainjibi Forum in the Apex body of the Lawyer at Bangladesh Supreme Court

For his political position,[8][9] Rabbani was tortured and arrested twice. He staged a demonstration protesting the killing of 10 Biharis by burning them alive by the locals. He is currently charged with cases.[10]

Social activities

Golam Mohammad Rabbani is a very active social worker. He engaged in many organizations. He founded Bengal law Forum. Three barristers from Bangladesh Supreme Court are working under his able leadership and guidance. He is working to secure rights of the Labors, particularly the rights of the ill-fated Bihari Community.

He worked as a consultant at World Bank in 2000. He was a Youth Ambassador at Commonwealth International in 2004 to 2006.[6] He was a board member at Prime Minister’s Youth Welfare Fund Management Board and director at National Co-operative Union.[5]

He participated in a demonstration to lower the house rent in Manhattan City as a Field Organizer of “CHAYA CDC”. He attended as speaker in an occasion organized by the New York City Bar.

Youth Forum

Rabbani is the founder and president of the Youth Forum which is an active group of young people from 1500 youth organizations and 50 educational institutions of 500 thanas of Bangladesh.[5]

Awards

Rabbani received many awards for his leadership and works in human rights. Bangladesh Government has twice awarded him with national medal as the “Best Youth Leader and Organizer”.
