Greg Nibler (born July 2, 1977) is an American Internet radio host, Internet television host, musician, and actor. Formerly of The Nibler Show and The Rick Emerson Show, he is the current Host of Funemployment Radio[1] and Sportlandia[2]
Biography
Early life
Greg Nibler was born and raised in Independence, Oregon, attending Central High School. He also attended Oregon State University, graduating with a degree in Marketing. He has lived in Portland, Oregon for 10 years and owns a home in the Southeast Portland area, with a converted attic for sleeping. He also has an unspoken addiction to buffalo chicken wings.
Career
Before entering entertainment professionally, Greg held several different jobs in various industries. In college, he worked at the Albany Paper Mill, in Albany, Oregon. Post college, he has held jobs as a Sales Representative for a uniform company and also worked as a Marketing Director in the pool industry. Greg was the host of the long-running cult talk radio show, The Nibler Show on KPSU 1450 am, a community-based radio station in Portland, Oregon. The show featured an exaggerated version of Greg interacting with various characters and individuals. Some of the characters were portrayed by other guests, and some were pre-recorded and voiced by Greg himself.
Upon entering commercial radio, he was the Producer/co-host of KXJM Jammin 107.5's afternoon show, CK's Bad Boy Broadcast. In addition he was the Weekend afternoon host on Rock 101 KUFO. In early 2009, KXJM changed formats, Greg was quickly picked up by The Rick Emerson Show which was in the process of moving to KUFO mornings, and had just lost its call screener to MMA. With in a short period of time Greg became an integral part of the show, and became the Production Assistant for the rest of Rick Emerson's tenure at CBS Radio Portland.
Funemployment Radio
When The Rick Emerson Show ended in October 2009, [3] Greg and producer Sarah X Dylan began a podcast, Funemployment Radio (.com).[4][5][6] He later recalled: "Within a week, we both realized that neither of us could handle the boredom of no longer doing a show. I had a makeshift recording studio in a spare bedroom at my house, so we sat down and tried a couple of test shows to see if we had the ability to work well one on one. As it turned out, we could!" [7] Their show was an instant success, not only from Emerson's audience, but by others from around the world. The show debuted on November 5, 2009 and was nominated as one of the top 10 comedy podcasts in the world, for the 2010 and 2011 Podcast Awards.[8]
The exposure of Funemployment Radio brought his (and Ms. Dylan's) talents to the attention of the Trail Blazers who hired them as the hosts of Sportlandia,[9] a show revolving around sports and the culture of Portland, Oregon. Sportlandia's first broadcast was on February 18, 2011, and became a smash hit for the Portland Trail Blazers. As of December 2011, the show airs on Fridays at 12pm PST, at www.trailblazers.tv, as well as 90 minutes before each Blazer's game.
Bands
Since moving to Portland, Greg has been a part of the rock music scene, playing bass and singing in such bands as Princes Of Parliament, Distracted, Freelance Terrorists and most notably Courage.[10] After releasing three albums and one music video for Rock And Roll Rodeo, Courage stopped touring regularly a few years ago. However, they do frequently reunite for reunion shows. The band concept is similar to Spinal Tap, in that the show and band is half about music and half about the stage performance, in which Greg plays a character named Russel Spanker III.
Acting
Greg has acted in a variety of formats, from Television, to industrials. He also makes frequent appearances as a technology review for Digital Trends, traveling with them to cover the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, in 2008 and 2009.
In addition, Greg is the spokesperson for Metro Recycling's Meet The Box campaign.
He was a Writer and Actor, along with Nate Gancher, Trip Ross, and Rob Campbell, for the sketch-comedy television show, Empty Noggin. Moving from largely an online presence to an actual television show in 2006, Empty Noggin Television aired concurrently on Comcast Local 37 and Comcast On-Demand. After one season, it moved to Portland's CW for half a season, before finishing out the second season on Fox 49. Recently, on his radio show, he has implied that he is involved in the development of an upcoming and untitled Pixar film.
