Gager is a municipality in the Vorpommern-Rügen district, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Besides Gager, the municipality also includes the villages Groß Zicker and Groß Zicker Ausbau.

History

The place was part of the Principality of Rugen to 1326 and then the Duchy of Pomerania.

With the 1648 Treaty of Westphalia came Rügen and thus also the place to Gager Swedish Pomerania. In 1815 the town became part of Prussian province of Pomerania Vorpommern.

Since 1818 Gager belonged to the circle or district Rügen. Only in the years 1952 to 1955 it was part of Putbus County (German: Kreis Putbus).

Following the Division of Germany and establishment of the German Democratic Republic, a summer camp was operated in the United Zicker. The village belonged until 1990 he held the Rügen county in the district of Rostock and was in the same year of the country Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Following the Reunion of Germany in 1990 re-Marked district Rügen went 2011 in Vorpommern-Rügen.

In 1980, the movie was filmed "The Three Other Seasons" (German: Die 3 anderen Jahreszeiten) over the two cities and the lives of the villagers. The fairytale film The Blue Light was filmed among others in the landscapes of the peninsula this county.
