HONNE are a British electronic soul duo formed in 2014 in Bow, London, consisting of James (producer) and Andy (singer/producer) who both write, record and produce the music.[1] The band released their first two EPs, Warm on a Cold Night and All in the Value, on Super Recordings in 2014. In 2015 they released their third EP, Coastal Love, on their own imprint Tatemae Recordings. Their debut studio album Warm on a Cold Night was released on 22 July 2016 through Tatemae Recordings.

Music career

2014: Early career and first EPs

Clutterbuck and Hatcher met while at university and started making music together under the name of HONNE – a Japanese word (本音) meaning "real intention" – in late 2014.[2] HONNE's musical style has been described as "futuristic soul destined to re-invent babymaking music" by The Telegraph.[3] The band released their debut single "Warm on a Cold Night" in September 2014 via Super Recordings, the label that launched AlunaGeorge and Bondax. They followed up with their second EP All in the Value, also released on Super Recordings, in November 2014, and made their live debut at the Sebright Arms on the same day.[4]

2015: Coastal Love EP and live performances

HONNE started 2015 with a sold out show at Electrowerkz in London in February[5] before announcing the release of their EP ‘Coastal Love’ on their own imprint Tatemae Recordings. Following the release of their Coastal Love EP on 1 May, the band played a sold out headline gig at The Laundry in London on 13 May[6] and performed on the BBC Introducing stage at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend 2015 in Norwich.[7] From early to mid-2015, the band performed at various festivals in the UK and across Europe, including The Great Escape Festival 2015, Field Day, Calvi on the Rocks, Latitude and supported Kwabs on his UK and European tour.[8]

2016: Gone Are the Days and Warm on a Cold Night

Released early in 2016, Gone Are the Days features the song of the same name from their Coastal Love EP as well as six new tracks, including a remix of the title song. HONNE followed this up with their first full-length album, Warm on a Cold Night, on 22 July 2016.

The album cover features Japanese characters for aesthetic reasons, and features an image taken on the night of one of their London shows.[9]
